Iiyama Play Park – Free Community Playground at Iiyama Castle Park

A hand-drawn illustration in warm colored pencil brings the spirit of Iiyama Play Park to life. Children and elders joining hands capture the heart of this community playground — a place for everyone.
A free play space for everyone — welcome to Iiyama Play Park this spring.
No reservations needed. Come and go as you please. Iiyama Play Park is an open community playground at Iiyama Castle Park, welcoming everyone from toddlers to grandparents — ages 0 to 120. Rooted in the “play park” tradition that originated in Denmark and now practiced by around 400 groups across Japan, this initiative values children’s independence and the spirit of building a play space together with the whole community.
Playworkers are on hand to keep an eye on things, creating a safe and relaxed environment where kids can play freely at their own pace. Drop by on a walk, come with family, or come solo — even just sitting back and enjoying the atmosphere is more than welcome.
