Free Lecture in Iiyama: Screenwriter Erika Yoshida on Gender, Rights & Our Stories

That small “Huh?” might be the start of something big

Have you ever noticed something and quietly thought, “Why is this just… normal?” That small moment of questioning — that hate? (“huh?”) — was at the very heart of the beloved 2024 NHK morning drama Tora ni Tsubasa (虎に翼), which moved audiences across Japan with its unflinching look at gender inequality, human rights, and the weight of everyday injustice.

Now, the acclaimed screenwriter behind that story, Erika Yoshida, is coming to Iiyama. In this free public lecture, she’ll share the questions and convictions that shaped her writing — and invite all of us to reflect on our own “now” and the future we want to build together.
