Traditional Metal Engraving Workshop|
August 8, 2026 at Iiyama Yutaki Onsen
Craft a One-of-a-Kind Keepsake with a Certified Master Artisan
Iiyama Butsudan (Buddhist altars) are designated a Traditional Craft by Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry — and the hand-hammered metal fittings that decorate them are among the finest of their details. For one afternoon, a certified traditional craftsman will teach that technique directly to you.
The setting is a private room on the second floor of Iiyama Yutaki Onsen. For 45 quiet minutes, you’ll tap a chisel against a copper plate, watching cherry blossoms and floral patterns slowly rise from the surface. Choose any two pieces to make: a medallion, a bookmark, or a chopstick rest — each one entirely your own.
No experience needed, and when you’re finished, the hot spring baths are right downstairs.
- Learn the hand-hammered metalwork technique behind Iiyama Butsudan, a nationally designated Traditional Craft
- Taught directly by a certified traditional craftsman — perfect for first-timers
- Make two pieces of your choice: medallion, bookmark, or chopstick rest
